Welcome to our Environmental Fluid Mechanics Group!
The Group is led by Dr Sergio Maldonado. We do research into environmental fluids, including both fundamental questions and applied research. We make use of theoretical, experimental, and numerical tools, as well as AI. Examples of research we carry out include: physics-informed neuronal networks applied to fluids, development of optics-based measurement techniques for experimental fluid mechanics, and fundamental aspects of fluid-particle interactions (e.g. algae and sediment or plastic grains in turbulent flow). Our group is peculiar in that it is spread across the Atlantic, with members both at the University of Southampton in the UK and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico.
