Principal Investigator

Sergio Maldonado, Ph.D.

Lecturer (Assistant Professor)
Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences
University of Southampton
Southampton, UK

Sergio Maldonado’s research interests include various aspects of Environmental Fluid Mechanics, generally falling in the following two categories: particle-fluid interactions (e.g. algae cells in flows, flexible fibres in turbulence, spheres in a boundary layer) and the development of Physics Informed Neural Networks (which may represent an attractive alternative to CFD solvers).

Trajectory:

Education:

  • 2016 PhD in Environmental Fluid Mechanics, University of Edinburgh, UK. (supervisor: Prof Alistair Borthwick)
  • 2011 MSc Hydraulic Engineering (cum laude), National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico.
  • 2009 BSc Mechanical Engineering, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico.
